At first I was going to museums in London mainly because the on and off
rain had made outdoor activities difficult. But, lucky me, I found out
that their museums were very educational in the way of the detailed
information they provide with their items on display. For example, Room
1 of BM is on 18th Century Enlightenment which is subdivided into 7
themes all with very detailed information

And this made going to a museum not just a tourist ritual of "being
there to see that woirld famous piece that everyone says one must not
miss" but like reading a most informative book that although you may
not really recall what you have read after a while but would feel truly
enlightened afterwards.
Although I still think the British
Museum is a product of the ugly face of the British Empire (as a lot of
artifacts were looted in wars) but I am very impressed by: 1. the way they treat their artifacts 2.
the respects they pay to knowledge (they are running an MA course with
King's College on Enlightenment, all items are accompanied by detailed
desciptions which are alss available online 3. free admission to the museum which is in a way opening up knoweldge to all people 4. a reference library in the Museum that is also open to the public
